In my family we like good food, and we like to laugh about "eating our way to enlightenment and fulfillment." But what if it were possible to eat for justice? Our Social Action Council has selected Food and Environmental Justice as our social action theme for the 2010-2011 church year, and today we are setting the table for this year-long feast. We know that some people in our world enjoy many food choices while others remain hungry? We know that the food industry produces wealth, yet small farmers and farm workers are often abidingly poor. We like getting good bargains at the grocery store and when we’re out for dinner, even though we know that food manufacturing contributes to social problems. How do we eat for justice?
