Scrap Drive – Sponsored and run by the UUCW Stewardship Committee

In June 2010 we held our second scrap metal drive. The first drive in October 2009 collected more than three tons of scrap metal - a record for a first time effort according to staff at Action Metal Recyclers.  We followed that with collection of holiday lights and other insulated copper wire products. A few of you have taken materials directly to Action Recyclers on W. State Street and had the funds designated for UUCW.

Our scrap metal collection efforts are paying off for UUCW, for the planet, and for local businesses. The October drive netted $665.  But the best part is that we've kept all that metal out of local landfills, given you an excuse to clean closets and garages, done our part to limit new mining of those metals, and even helped a local business employ local people to process what we contribute.
