Activities, Groups & Programs

There are many activities and programs offered at UUCW - opportunities for enrichment, education, and fun! The following list details our current offerings. Check back occasionally for new activities!



Adult Enrichment Activities PDF Print

Our Adult Enrichment Committee develops, publicizes, and facilitates classes and programs to support personal spiritual development, foster awareness and appreciation of diverse religious practices, deepen our sense of community, and explore the everyday ways we can live our Unitarian Universalism faith and values. We offer courses and workshops throughout the year. See Adult Enrichment Classes and Workshops in the Adult Spirituality section for more information.

 
Affinity Groups and Activities PDF Print

UUCW’s affinity groups and activities are open to new people on a drop-in basis. New groups can form at any time.  If you are interested in a group not currently offered, contact Roger Frick. 

Bridge Group

UUCW Bridge is a group of members and friends of UUCW who meet regularly to play bridge. Both novice and experienced players are welcome. Contact:  Mary Ruckh

Buddha and the Twelve Steps

A Twelve Step program for all recovering persons in any affiliated groups which uses AA’s 12 steps and Buddhist principles.   Contact:  Sue Morgan  

Connecting Families

We plan and offer activities geared towards families such as babysitting swap, dinners in the home, RE parent coffee, play groups, outings and fundraising for UUCW through child centered activities. Contact:  Becky Thompson

Dinners in the Home

A round robin dinner, gathering in participants’ homes, five times a year.  Contact: Roger Frick.

DUUversity Theater    

Our vision is to support ethnic and racial diversity in our culture through attending and discussing live theater productions focusing on and/or presented by these groups and themes.  See our new web site. Contacts:  Sue Morgan and Roger Frick.

FUUd GrUUP

Fuud GrUUP is an organic and natural foods buying club offered as another way to grocery shop. Contact:  Monica Zamzow

Gen UU 

Gen UU is a group of young adults (target age 18-35) who seek a community of peers to have fun with and explore their spiritual ideas as they journey through this unique life stage with its myriad of transitions.

Interweave West

Interweave West is a group of gay, heterosexual, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender folks who meet for learning , fellowship and action.  It is a vital part of UUCW’s Welcoming Congregation.  Contact: Mark Walker

Labyrinth Ministry Group

The Labyrinth Ministry Affinity Group maintains the UUCW Outdoor Labyrinth, located on the church east property, open for use by anyone at anytime, and regularly offers guided labyrinth walks and other labyrinth events for the UUCW congregation and the public. Meditation Garden Stewards

This group maintains our Mediation Garden which nurtures a diversity of native plants. It is located along the southeastern edge of the parking lot on the west side of the church. Contact: Katharine Brenner

Men’s Breakfast Group

Meets monthly for breakfast and conversation. Contact: Alan Ball

Outduurs

The Outduurs (pronounced Out-do-ers!) organizes opportunities for the UUCW community to enjoy year-round outdoor oriented outings & activities in fellowship together. We represent our growing diversity of interests with activities such as nature hikes, kite flying, biking, snow sports and camping. Contact: Bryan Tracey

PieceMakers Quilting Group

We quilt to improve our sewing skills while creating close friendships. We are a very welcoming group. Experienced and novice quilters are welcomed to meet every other Saturday at UUCW to sew quilts that benefit the church and the greater community. One ongoing project; we sew quilts to benefit the Froedtert Hospital Hospice. Contact: Melanie Weston

Secular Organization for Sobriety (SOS)

A nationwide alternative support group that meets weekly and is open to all recovering alcoholics and addicts. Contact: Bob St. Clair

Sheepshead

UUCW Sheepshead is a group of members and friends of UUCW who meet regularly to play sheepshead. Both novice and experienced players are welcome. Contact: Carol Klaus

Softball Team —“The 8th Principle”

Spiritued UUCW adult co-ed team in the Brookfield Recreational Softball League.  The 8th principle is:  Everybody Bats! Contact:  Chris Zamzow

Spiritual Book Group

This group meets several times per month to delve into spiritual topics through book reading in real time and deep discussion. Contact: Lynda Kimmel

West of Fifty

Suppers and lunches, most potluck, with interesting programs. Contact: Warren Phinney or Jerry Kashmerick

Women's Book Discussion Group

This group meets monthly  for fellowship and book discussion – both fiction and non-fiction.  In December, we choose books for the next eleven months.  Everyone presents selections, which are then voted on. Contact: Ellen Newbauer  or Kathy Schwei

Yarnitarians

Knitters and crocheters meeting for fellowship, and to create works that are of comfort or service for individuals in need within and beyond our church. Contact: Matt Finesilver

 
Music Program Groups and Activities PDF Print

UUCW offers many ways to participate musically.  Contact:  Ruben Piirainen, Director of Music, or individuals listed with each offering.

Choirs

Adult Choir:  Our large and wonderful Adult Choir rehearses weekly, and performs for worship services on a regular schedule.

Canvass Cabaret: Individuals and groups provide entertainment for our Annual Canvass evening event.

Christmas Choir: Rehearse once and perform on December 24th at Christmas Eve worship.

Intergenerational Choir:  All ages welcome – this choir typically rehearses four times, leading to a performance at a specific worship service.

One Hour Choir:  Join our Adult Choir for an early-morning rehearsal and Sunday performance.

Solstice Singers:  Performs two times during the year.

Children's Music Experience

The Children’s Music Experience aims to instill a love of music in children through 7th grade by giving them a unique experience of rehearsing and performing choral and/or musical theatre as a part of our worship services once or twice a year.  This group works under the direction of skilled musical professional Nadine Borngraeber. Coffee House

Join us on the second Saturday evening of each month to celebrate the joy of music and fellowship through concerts, karaoke, open mic, jam sessions, and more!  Contact:  John Bahr

Kirtan with Ragani

Devotional Hindu chanting in Sanskrit with the largest kirtan group in North America.  Usually the first Friday of every month. $10 donation.  For more information, see http://www.raganiworld.com

 
UUnity Circles Small Group Ministry Program PDF Print

A UUnity Circle is a group of 7-9 people who meet together to build community and develop caring relationships.  Most groups form in September and meet through June.  The focus of each UUnity Circle meeting is a topic or activity that serves as a springboard into reflection on deeper issues about who we are and what gives our lives meaning.  There are occasional openings for new members in established groups  throughout the year.  See UUnity Circles in the Adult Spirituality section for more information.
